Sweet carrots and tomatoes from the garden make all of the work worth it!

The garden has been producing and abundance of produce for several weeks now.  We started with some radishes, snap peas, and strawberries.  Now the season has moved on to zucchini, summer (crook neck) squash, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, butternut squash, carrots, beans, and eggplants.  The beets and onions are ready, but I haven’t harvested them yet.  The preparing, planting, weeding, and watering (although the sprinkler system takes care of most of that) is so worth the effort!  There is nothing like fresh tomatoes…just nothing!  When I was a kid, I hated working in the garden.  Weeding was pure torture.  But now, working in the garden is a comfort to my soul.  I can go out in the vegetable garden out back or the flower garden out front and lose myself and my worries in the peaceful working of the earth.  I haven’t had time lately to work much with the garden…it’s been a kind month of hurry up and pick the produce so it doesn’t go bad and ignore the rest.  I really do need to stop and take time for those things that give me important thinking time.  It’s all about priorities I guess, and I need to be working on mine.
